The beautiful story continues for Sandfall and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Sandfall Interactive has been on cloud nine since the release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Recently, the title reached 3.3 million sales, 33 days after its release. Symbolic figures for the Montpellier-based independent studio, which has a true global cultural phenomenon.

Despite a few flaws, Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33 is a testament to the talent of the studio of two former Ubisoft employees and its thirty employees, who have managed to create a game that pays homage to successful Japanese J-RPGs. Fast-paced gameplay, a captivating soundtrack, a deep storyline, but also, and above all, sumptuous artistic direction, inspired by the Belle Époque of the early 20th century with its fantastical and surreal elements. The game's title is no coincidence. Sandfall was notably inspired by the chiaroscuro technique to create depth and contrast to accentuate the drama. In short, the game sometimes takes on the appearance of a true living painting, and some of the shots are designed as canvases to be observed. Art is therefore omnipresent, whether through its story where this Painter distorts the world and its inhabitants by painting numbers on a giant monolith.

A photo mode coming soon?

This magnificent universe and its living canvases are just waiting to be captured by players. Unfortunately, Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33 does not currently have a photo mode. But due to strong demand, the French studio has announced that a future update will include this option. It would even be "at the very top of the list" of new features to come according to Nicholas Maxon.

The game's artistic director nevertheless specifies that the creation of the mode requires a lot of work and time. It will therefore be necessary to be patient before being able to take out the camera and capture the superb shots of the game's universe. Sandfall's current priority is to correct problems and bugs in order to stabilize the gaming experience.
