Expected on September 9, 2026, Clayface will focus on the famous Batman antagonist. A DC film centered on one of the Dark Knight's worst enemies, directed by James Watkins. Just recently, Clayface has found its lead actor.
Who is Clayface?
Clayface, or Clayface in the French version, is a recurring antagonist in the Batman universe. Created in 1940 by Bob Kane, Clayface is a villain made of clay and clay. Several characters have successively taken on the identity of Clayface over time. The very first Clayface was Basil Karlo. A broke and failed actor, he gained his powers through exposure to a chemical called Renuyu.
Once he gained his powers, Clayface decided to take revenge on the Hollywood underworld and began committing murders against his former colleagues. He quickly embarked on a criminal career and became a recurring antagonist of Batman. James Watkins is the director of The Woman in Black (2012), Bastille Day (2016), an episode of season 3 of Black Mirror and the recent Speak No Evil (2024). He was therefore chosen to direct the DC film about Clayface. On the screenplay side, it was the great Mike Flanagan who was hired to bring this story about Clayface to fruition.
Clayface will indeed be part of the DC Universe (DCU) of James Gunn and Peter Safran. It will be a continuation of various DC productions such as Superman and Supergirl.
Recently, Deadline has just revealed the identity of the actor who will play Clayface in the DC film. This is Tom Rhys Harries, a 32-year-old British actor, who we have seen in the series Suspicion. He is also famous for having had a recurring role in the series Britannia. We can also see him in The Templars 2: The River of Blood (2014), in Dragon Heart - The Battle for the Heart of Fire (2017) or even the recent Kandahar (2023). We'll let you tell us in the comments if this choice satisfies you.
