You know this if you're a regular Hitek reader: Disney's new Snow White is both a disaster at the box office and for the planet. The live-action film starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot flopped in theaters, but the film could become a hit in the future, as the initial results of this unexpected second wind prove.
A failed version of Snow White
Disney didn't have the best idea of the century by adapting its oldest tale into live-action. His Snow White disappointed fans worldwide, not only in terms of the plot, but also the casting and the special effects. With its incredible budget estimated at $350 million, the live-action remake forced the big-eared studios to lower their standards. Gone are the ruinous films; Disney will now favor more "reasonable" budgets. The proof is in the pudding with Lilo & Stitch, whose rather unexpected success must be a real breath of fresh air for the company. But all is not lost for Snow White either, since the film is a streaming hit!
Will Snow White make up for lost time on Disney+?
Available since Wednesday, June 11 in the Disney+ catalog in the USA, Snow White is the most-watched program on the platform. Right behind it are the animated film Lilo & Stitch (2002) and Captain America: Brave New World (2025). This start is promising, it remains to be seen how long the live-action film will remain in the top 3 of the streaming site. This late success also proves that the very short delays imposed by Disney between the theatrical release of films and their arrival on streaming encourage viewers to go to the cinema less. It is understandable that Disney+ subscribers, especially in the United States, are more inclined to wait wisely for the programs to be available online than to spend the price of cinema tickets for their entire family - especially for a mediocre film.
