The 2024-2025 period was rich in quality anime, and despite many new entries, Dragon Ball was able to establish itself with DAIMA. Better still, the series achieved a real feat by establishing itself as a leader in the genre, even surpassing very popular anime at a ceremony.
The anime that are making and will make the year 2025
Anime fans are, for the moment, very spoiled. The releases of the last few months have pleased the majority with quality titles like The Apothecary's Notebooks, On the Move of the Earth, or To Be Hero X to leave Japanese territory. And while many are eagerly awaiting the summer anime, it must be admitted that two series in particular have been more talked about than the others.
In recent months, fans have enjoyed season 2 of Solo Leveling and the first season of DanDaDan. The adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu's hit manga will soon have a sequel, which everyone is eager to see this summer. Despite the popularity of these titles, a third anime has also generated a lot of excitement. This is, of course, Dragon Ball DAIMA, which even outperformed its competitors by winning an award.
Dragon Ball DAIMA named best anime of the year
The 5th Astra TV Awards ceremony was held on June 10th. This was only the second edition to include a category dedicated to anime. The Apothecary's Notebooks, DanDaDan, Fire Force, Lazarus, Solo Leveling and Dragon Ball DAIMA were in the running for the award for best anime of the year, and the latter won, succeeding the webtoon adaptation.
Dragon Ball DAIMA's victory is somewhat surprising. A few days earlier, at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Solo Leveling had swept the majority of the awards. It seemed likely that the same would happen at the Astra TV Awards, but that didn't happen. Does Dragon Ball DaiMa deserve this award? It's hard to say. Visually, the series is arguably the best in the Dragon Ball universe, but its narrative has several weaknesses. It's possible that the event wanted to recognize Akira Toriyama's work by rewarding his latest contribution.
