Elon Musk 'doesn't use a computer' according to his lawyers, but his tweets say otherwise

Elon Musk is suing OpenAI, accusing the company of reneging on its initial commitments in favor of Microsoft. But another issue is making headlines in this lawsuit: in a court filing, his lawyers claim that he "does not use a computer." This claim is contradicted by numerous public records, including the billionaire's own posts on X.

Elon Musk reportedly does not have a computer...

In a filing dated June 23, Elon Musk's lawyers claim that their client does not use a computer, relying solely on his phone for his activities. This statement is supposed to justify the fact that no documents would be extracted from his computer as part of the discovery process, a crucial phase of the lawsuit between Musk and his company xAI and OpenAI.

This line of defense aims to respond to an accusation from OpenAI filed two days earlier. The company accused Musk of not fully cooperating in the handover of documents, which his lawyers strongly dispute. But the argument put forward has raised many doubts: several public posts by Musk on X contradict this idea.

…despite the evidence of his use of a PC

In December 2024, for example, Musk shared a photo of his laptop, explaining that he was testing Starlink streaming in flight. He was running the video game Diablo 4 on it. This was not an isolated case, as since August 2024, he has posted several similar videos, clearly showing a desktop environment.

In May 2025, he still indicated that he was using an "old laptop with a Doge sticker" given to him by a German fan. It was reportedly an Aero computer. And in February 2024, he mentioned buying a new computer, but refused to create a Microsoft account to set it up. He even publicly complained about it to Satya Nadella. Even his Washington offices reportedly include a gaming computer, seen in the background of a video broadcast by an American podcast. Musk also stated in 2021 that he uses both a desktop PC and a Mac.
