As the release of Fantastic Four: First Steps approaches, Matt Shackman's film is being unveiled. After the first glimpses of Galactus, it's the actor who will play the Devourer of Worlds who gives some interesting clues about his character.

Fantastic Four: Galactus will be very different from the character you imagine

Galactus, a villain like no other

This summer, Marvel will enter the fray against DC Comics and its Superman. The house of Ideas will try to beat its competitor at the box office with Fantastic Four: First Steps. No small feat given the ambition of James Gunn's project, whose talent has already been proven in his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, and when we take a look at the low box office results of Thunderbolts* after a month of release. However, the film has solid assets to convince MCU fans to go to the cinema: its 5-star cast first of all, composed of Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things, Gladiator 2), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (the excellent series The Bear), Vanessa Kirby (Napoleon, and recently Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning), and Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer (Ozark). Its intriguing retro-futuristic universe inspired by the 60s, but also because it's the quartet's first real integration into the MCU, after several failed attempts (the 2015 version immediately comes to mind). And to give the superhero troupe a hard time, a charismatic villain who has never yet been adapted into live-action: Galactus. After Thanos in Phase 3, fans are waiting for a super villain worthy of the name.

A villain more complex than he seems

But unlike the Mad Titan, the one nicknamed "the devourer of worlds" is not as evil as his name suggests. A gigantic cosmic entity, he needs to absorb planets to survive. This is confirmed by Ralph Ineson, who will lend his features and voice to Galactus. In an interview with Empire magazine, the actor revealed that he "doesn't think" his character "is that bad." On the other hand, "Finchy" from The Office is a real jerk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZXR4BVPRbg

Poll: Do you think Galactus can really add value to the film?

This entity, described by director Matt Shackman as "a gigantic, 14-billion-year-old planet-eating cosmic vampire," has chosen Earth as its next meal. A necessity that will be perceived by the Fantastic Four, the inhabitants of our dear blue planet, and therefore by the audience, as a threat to be eradicated. But by portraying him in a more complex way than just a big baddie, and thus breaking with a certain Manichaeism, Marvel has the opportunity to offer a bolder film with real psychological reflection. See you in theaters on July 23, 2025 to discover it. In the meantime, you can discover the first visuals of the character right here.
