Gal Gadot has long worn the colors of the Amazon. But everything suggests that the Israeli actress will not reprise her role. Since James Gunn confirmed the development of a new film, speculation has been rife. And one name has often been mentioned.

A new beginning for Wonder Woman

As a reminder, James Gunn is now at the head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. He recently revealed that the script for a new Wonder Woman film was currently being written. He specified that the lead role had not yet been cast and did not mention Gal Gadot in his plans. Unsurprisingly, this announcement immediately sparked a tidal wave of rumors on social media.

The DC Universe is entering a new phase. Superman will soon arrive with a brand new actor. Batman will be reimagined. It's no surprise, then, that Wonder Woman is following this trend of renewal. But then, who can take on this iconic role?

An actress supported by fans

Indeed, fans seem to be leaning towards Adria Arjona. Known for her role as Bix Caleen in the series Andor (Star Wars), she impressed audiences with her accuracy and acting talent. Since then, she has had a string of successes. Her latest film, A Minecraft Movie, was a box office hit.

But that's not all. Fans are already imagining her in the Amazon warrior's armor. A fan art piece published on X by the artist @felipe_illaart shows her as Wonder Woman, imposing, intimidating, inspiring, with the caption: "Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman. Just imagine..."

The rise of Puerto Rican-born Adria Arjona also reflects a broader trend. It does seem that fans and studios are becoming more open to diverse backgrounds to embody the heroes of tomorrow.

However, she's not the only one on the list. Melissa Barrera (Scream VI) and May Calamawy (Moon Knight), of Mexican and Middle Eastern descent respectively, have also been mentioned by fans.

Adria Arjona seems determined to get this role

During a visit to Mexico City to promote Minecraft, Adria responded to the rumor by saying: "Write about it... Help me!" She thus seems determined to get this role and is counting on the mobilization of her community.

For now, James Gunn is keeping quiet about the casting. He confirmed that the Wonder Woman film does not yet have a female director. And there is no indication that he will direct it himself. However, as co-CEO of DC Studios, he plays a leading role in artistic choices.

We know, in any case, that he knows how to listen to fans, at least judging by his past. His casting of Superman is a case in point.
