GTA 6 is undoubtedly the most anticipated game of the moment, and the slightest piece of information, rumor, or leak immediately sets the internet ablaze. This time, it's not necessarily a story element or a major gameplay mechanic, but rather... the music! The leaks are definitely coming thick and fast!
GTA 6 wants to fill your ears
It was during an interview that Jermaine Dupri, the famous American producer, set the stage alight. For those who don't know him, Dupri has been a key figure in hip-hop and R&B since the 90s. He launched artists like Kris Kross, produced for Mariah Carey, Usher, and Bow Wow, and founded the So So Def label. Suffice it to say, he knows the industry well. In the video, around the six-minute mark, he claims that Drake could have his own radio station in GTA 6. While the news hasn't been confirmed by Rockstar, it's enough to spark discussions on the forums.
The idea seems credible. Rockstar has always taken great care with the soundtracks of its games, often collaborating with renowned artists. We remember Flying Lotus, Frank Ocean, and DJ Pooh. Drake, with his global aura and cultural ties to Miami, the city that inspires the setting of GTA 6, would have a perfect place in the playlist. Jermaine Dupri goes even further: according to him, some artists could release new music directly in GTA Online. In other words, new tracks could be revealed for the first time... in the game.
An idea reminiscent of Fortnite's virtual concerts, or even the exclusive collaborations between Apple Music and Spotify. Rockstar could thus transform GTA 6 into a music platform, capable of offering world premieres to its players. A natural evolution, as music has always been at the heart of the GTA experience.
A mixed reception
Obviously, this rumor is not unanimous. On forums and networks, reactions are very mixed. Some welcome the idea of a more contemporary radio station, others criticize the choice of Drake, deemed too mainstream, even incompatible with the spirit of GTA 6. Some fans are instead calling for artists like Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull, or even good old Miami bass. Many are also hoping for the return of cult stations like FlyLo FM.
If Rockstar confirms this direction, GTA 6 could go even further in its blending of video games and popular culture. Radio stations have always been an essential part of the series' sonic identity. But with this idea of new musical content, the studio could turn GTA 6 into a launching pad for artists.
