OpenAI is preparing for the arrival of GPT-5 this summer. The announcement was made by Sam Altman, CEO of the company, in a new episode of the official OpenAI podcast. The question of monetizing ChatGPT was also raised, particularly with the possibility of advertising... provided that they never alter the responses generated by the AI.

GPT-5, a major breakthrough expected this summer

During this podcast, Sam Altman confirmed that GPT-5 would be launched "this summer," without specifying a release date. According to Business Insider, the initial feedback from testers is very positive, speaking of a version that is "materially better" than GPT-4, which also continues to improve. This release comes as OpenAI faces increasing pressure from both competitors and regulators.

The GPT-5 model is expected to play a key role in OpenAI's growth strategy. Today, the company derives most of its revenue from enterprise customers, via more powerful versions like ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro. The challenge is therefore to maintain this momentum by offering an even more efficient and useful model.

Advertising on ChatGPT: Sam Altman sets a clear limit

Another topic addressed by Altman: the potential integration of advertising on ChatGPT. The CEO is not opposed to the principle, but he sets a strict limit. He excludes any modification of the content of responses based on advertising partnerships: this would, according to him, be "destructive to user confidence."

Altman has not yet decided on the format or placement of these advertisements, but he envisions a presentation clearly separated from the main interface, for example in the footer or sidebar. He emphasizes that transparency and perceived usefulness will be essential before any implementation: “It will have to be very clear to users, and it will never interfere with the AI’s responses.”
