The cast of the Harry Potter series produced by HBO continues to expand. While we recently discovered the three main actors who will play Harry, Ron, and Hermione, HBO has just confirmed eight new actors. Here's an update!
Harry Potter: the cast of the HBO series is growing
The Harry Potter series project ordered by Warner Bros. Discovery from HBO is beginning to take shape. Officially announced in April 2023, the series is one of the riskiest Hollywood projects. In addition to facing the bad reputation of J.K. Rowling, who regularly makes headlines with statements deemed transphobic, the Harry Potter series must manage to coexist with the inevitably nostalgic memory of the first film adaptation of the adventures of the young wizard with glasses. A film saga released between 2001 and 2011 that marked an entire generation of viewers! Aware that the casting of the eight films greatly contributed to the success of the Harry Potter saga, HBO has long thought about the choice of its actors. While the first names, notably John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore) and PaapaEssiedu (Severus Snape), sparked heated controversy among fans, that of actress Janet McTeer to play Minerva McGonagall was more convincing - even if the task of replacing the much-missed Maggie Smith in this iconic role is difficult to say the least... Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch), Luke Thallon (Quirinus Quirrell) and the brilliant Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid) complete the cast of the staff of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
After the teaching and disciplinary staff of the school, HBO has officially revealed the names of the three heroes, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton, respectively. While the network had to make a drastic decision to protect its young actors, an article from Variety has just revealed the names of eight new actors joining the show, including several children. For example, Lox Pratt has been chosen to play the role of Draco Malfoy, Harry's great rival during his time at Hogwarts. (Also, let's remember that the actor from the films, Tom Felton, is reprising his role as Malfoy for a project!)

Leo Early,Alessia Leoni and Sienna Moosah will play three Gryffindor students who are close friends of the main trio: Seamus Finnegan (dorm mate of Harry and Ron), Parvati Patil (who will be Harry's date during the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and Lavender Brown (Ron's future girlfriend in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince).

Other actors have been cast, including Johnny Flynn, who will play Lucius Malfoy, the father of Draco Malfoy and is one of the main Death Eaters. It should be noted that the character makes his first appearance in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which seems to indicate that HBO has started casting actors for later seasons. (Unless Lucius Malfoy makes an appearance in the first season.)

Much more sympathetic, Molly Weasley - Ron's mother, who will be like a second mother to the orphaned Harry Potter - will be played by Katherine Parkinson. Finally, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will play the infamous and ridiculous couple Petunia and Vernon Dursley, forced to take Harry in as a baby following the tragic loss of his parents. We have high hopes for these two characters, who are responsible for some of the funniest scenes in the novels. However, we hope that Daniel Rigby will gain more weight in order to better match J.K. Rowling's description of Harry's uncle. Finally, note that earlier today, the American media outlet Deadline revealed the name chosen by HBO to play Cornelius Fudge, the United Kingdom's Minister of Magic.
