Here are two reasons to keep a close eye on the Nothing Phone (3)

Nothing is preparing the launch of its next premium smartphone, the Nothing Phone (3). As a reminder, the young London brand, launched in 2021, did not release a premium phone in 2024, a sign without doubt that it wanted to take a new step in terms of quality.

A few days before the official presentation, scheduled for July 1, the brand's co-founder, Akis Evangelidis, shares on his x.com account some details that show the brand's growing ambition.

Updates will improve, the processor too

Two elements stand out: the choice of SoC, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and the manufacturer's new update policy.

Let's start with this last point, since it is the easiest to explain. The latest Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro had many strengths, but they also shared a major flaw: only 3 years of major updates. The Nothing Phone (3), with its premium positioning, is forced to go further. It will therefore offer 5 years of major updates and 7 years of security patches. Enough to far exceed the phone's lifespan.

Let's move on to the SoC. The name Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is enough to confuse even the most assiduous observers. In short, it's a chip slightly below the most powerful SoC on the market, the Snapdragon 8Elite. At Qualcomm, the little S after a number means that it's a slightly less powerful chip than its predecessor. And since the Snapdragon 8Elite could have been called the Snapdragon 8Gen 4, we have an 8s Gen 4. Yes, it's unnecessarily complicated, we agree...

Still, Akis Evangelidis explained this choice. A user asked him why not choose the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the most powerful SoC of 2024. The Marketing manager stated that the 8s Gen 4 is more efficient in many areas: graphics, AI, photography, and connectivity.

With a Nothing Phone (2) released in 2023, the performance differences are obviously very significant compared to the Phone (3) of 2025, thanks to the year jump. The brand promises gains of 88% on the GPU (graphics processing unit), 33% on the central processor, and 125% on the neural processor. The camera section should also receive a significant improvement.
