As James Gunn now orchestrates the new era of the DC Universe as co-publisher of DC Studios, he seems to continue to build ties with his former MCU companions. We just learned that his long-awaited new Superman film will welcome three stars from Guardians of the Galaxy.
James Gunn, from Marvel to DC
James Gunn is now turning his attention to the most iconic hero of all time. This long-awaited reboot is scheduled for a worldwide release on July 15, 2025. And to mark the launch of the new DC cinematic universe, James Gunn has decided to surround himself with actors he knows well.
As a reminder, James Gunn successfully directed the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. And for some time now, a rumor has been circulating that three former Guardians of the Galaxy will be part of the voice cast of the new film. And James Gunn has just confirmed it in a recent interview.
Three Guardians in robot form
In reality, it will not be a flesh-and-blood appearance, but dubbing in an important scene of the film. Remember the clip revealed in April, which shows a critically injured Superman being brought back to the Fortress of Solitude by his faithful dog Krypo? That's where a group of robots tasked with healing him will come in.
And these robots will have familiar voices, those of: Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, and Bradley Cooper.
Pom Klementieff is one of the robots. In the same scene, there will also be Bradley and Michael Rooker as another robot.
At the same time, he specified that Alan Tudyk, a regular in DC animation, will play a robot named "4" in this same sequence.
A little reminder about these three actors
If you're not good at remembering actors' names, here's a little reminder of their roles at Marvel. Pom Klementieff actually played Mantis, the emphatic alien with sensitive antennae. Michael Rooker played Yondu, the tender-hearted pest with a deadly hiss. Bradley Cooper was the iconic voice of Rocket Raccoon, the sarcastic, armed raccoon.
Bradley Cooper's case is particularly intriguing. Since James Gunn mentions him among the robots, this should be enough to disprove the rumors that he could play Jor-El, Superman's biological father. He would appear at the beginning of the film, in flashbacks on Krypton.
Also, remember that Michael Rooker has already worked with James Gunn, playing Savant in The Suicid Squad and Red St. Wild in the upcoming season 2 of Peacemaker.
