It's one of the 10 most anticipated films of 2025: Jurassic World Renaissance, the next installment in the franchise, will hit theaters on July 4. While this blockbuster promises to be one of the summer hits, the first box office predictions are not at the level of the previous films in the saga.
The Jurassic, a lucrative saga
The sequel to the franchise, launched in the 2010s, confirmed the public's enthusiasm for the world of Jurassic Park, two decades later. the release of Steven Spielberg's cult film. Dinosaurs are popular, and viewers' fascination with these prehistoric monsters, brought back to life thanks to advances in science, remains intact over time. In 2015, with Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow achieved the best opening for a film in the saga with $208.8 million at the box office. In 2018, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom grossed $148 million during its opening weekend. In 2022, Jurassic World: Dominion grossed $145 million during the same period. In total, the reboot of the franchise has earned Universal almost $4 billion.
Mixed predictions for Jurassic World Renaissance
However, according to our colleagues at Deadline, the 5-day opening weekend of Jurassic World Renaissance should earn the studios between $115 and $135 million. Indeed, the film will be released in the United States on Wednesday rather than Friday, and its opening performance is therefore calculated over 5 days instead of the usual 3. This is the second time a film in the franchise has been released on a Wednesday, 24 years after 2001's Jurassic Park 3, which grossed $85 million at the box office during its opening weekend. With Jurassic World 4 opening on the lower end of the spectrum, Universal would have reason to worry... But let's not write the film off before its release. Renaissance could fulfill some of the franchise's promises and prove to be a nice surprise when it hits theaters!
