Massive outage at SFR: operator plunges thousands of subscribers into silence

If your smartphone has remained hopelessly silent since late morning, displaying zero network bars, you're not alone. A massive, nationwide outage is currently hitting the SFR network, paralyzing its subscribers' communications.

It all started late morning, when the first reports tentatively emerged on the specialist website Downdetector, before experiencing a dizzying surge. By 1 p.m., the number had exploded, surpassing 10,500 incident reports. On social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), discontent is growing, and testimonies are numbering in the hundreds. While major cities like Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Rennes, and Lille are logically the main sources of reports, no region seems truly spared, and the incident is nationwide. Faced with user complaints, SFR confirms that a "technical incident" is currently impacting its network:

A domino effect affecting other operators

The shockwave isn't limited to SFR subscribers alone. Through a well-known domino effect, customers of so-called "virtual" brands that rely on this infrastructure are also affected. Users of RED by SFR, but also of Prixtel, La Poste Mobile or Syma Mobile, find themselves in the same boat, unable to communicate.

Massive outage at SFR: operator plunges thousands of subscribers into silence

At the time of writing, the mystery surrounding the origin of this incident of rare magnitude remains unsolved. It comes as the future of the red square operator is uncertain in France, with a likely partial or total takeover of SFR. Its national fiber network is also up for sale and could bring in several billion euros for Altice.

For now, technical teams are hard at work on a return to normal, eagerly awaited by thousands of individuals and professionals. We will keep you informed as soon as we have new information.
