After the DS and the Switch, Nintendo is releasing its new Micro SD card dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2. But gamers have immediately warned those who might be tempted by the offer of misleading advertising. In short, we're not far from a scandal.
The Switch 2 and its 25 launch games
Since yesterday, the Nintendo Switch 2 has finally arrived in the homes of millions of gamers. At least for the lucky ones whose pre-orders were honored, and those who were able to get them in major retail stores (whose prices are also cheaper depending on the store).
So it's a huge catalogue of 25 games that's available to Nintendo fans. From ports like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, or Civilization VII, to first-party games like Mario Kart World. Without a doubt, this is the flagship title of this launch, despite the controversy surrounding it and a price that may put off more than one person when it comes to paying.
The Switch 2's famous R4 has a problem
Faced with this price increase and the general trend of rising game prices (the 90 euros charged for the physical version of Mario Kart World isn't going to help the industry), some gamers aren't hesitant to use controversial methods, or even completely illegal. We are of course talking about the R4, this MicroSD card without Nintendo license which allows you to download ROMs onto the console. After copying a file from a computer, it is possible to make raw copies of all the files on your cartridges using a "MIG Switch Dumper" box. All that's left is to insert the card into the console's cartridge port for the games to appear in the catalog.

And on X, the official Mig Switch account tried to make players believe that its Nintendo Switch card worked on Switch 2. On Reddit for example, a player published a video proving the Card malfunction. When launching the copied game, an error message appears stating that it is "unable to launch the software." The r/switch2hacks subreddit then attempts to warn players with a message posted under post X introducing the MIG Switch card.
This video misleads users in an attempt to sell a product that does not work. Although the MigSwitch cart and game data are detected by the Switch 2, this method is incompatible and the games do not work. This has been tested and verified by multiple users.

In addition to being an illegal method in some countries (in France, for example, the R4 has been banned since 2011), MIG Switch advertises on social media about a product that doesn't work. False advertising? Remember that Nintendo is witch-hunting this type of practice. Known to be uncompromising when it comes to protecting its brand and intellectual property, the Japanese company has in the past sued numerous hackers and ROM sales sites.
