Nintendo Switch 2 already breaks all records despite the controversy surrounding its price

The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally available after a very long wait. We've even offered you a full review on Gameblog, so you can get a good idea of what to expect if you buy it. And despite its very high price, the beast is already shattering records.

A lightning launch for the Nintendo Switch 2

It's now official: the Nintendo Switch 2 has had the best start in Nintendo's history. Launched on June 5, 2025, the new hybrid console sold more than 3.5 million units in just four days. An impressive performance, surpassing all previous launches from the brand. And even those of competing consoles.

From the very first hours, the Nintendo Switch 2 was sold out in many regions. Unlike the PS5 or the first Switch, which often suffered from stock shortages, Nintendo had anticipated this time. The result: meteoric sales, driven by well-managed availability.

Head-spinning figures

For comparison, the PS5 took a month to reach 3.4 million sales. The highly anticipated PS4 crossed the million mark in 24 hours, but took more than two weeks to surpass 2 million. As for the original Switch, it reached around 2.7 million in one month. In other words, the Nintendo Switch 2 is the fastest-growing console on the market.

This success is partly due to the flagship launch game: Mario Kart World. Offered in a slightly more expensive package, it was a massive draw. Easy to pick up, fun both solo and with others, it perfectly embodies Nintendo's DNA. It also served as a technological showcase for the console, particularly thanks to its improved performance.

But not everything is rosy for the Nintendo Switch 2. On social media and forums, many players are pointing the finger at the high prices of games, often selling for €80 or more. Some also regret the arrival of "game key cards," these boxes that only contain a code or a partial file, requiring you to download the rest. A real disappointment for collectors. The price of the console itself is also a deterrent for many, with an average of 469 euros at many retailers at the moment.
