It's the rush for the Nintendo Switch 2. Just released on Thursday, May 5, 2025, the console is in demand everywhere. But while some pre-orders cannot be fulfilled on the day and the official Nintendo website is out of stock, there are some interesting alternatives to avoid paying full price.
Nintendo faces player demand
It's the big day. After months of waiting, the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally released on the console market. Eight years after the first Switch, its successor is following in its footsteps. More powerful and more modern (without being revolutionary), the future hit promises an even more advanced gaming experience, whether with its first-party games, as well as ports of big industry titles, which are directly available at the console's launch, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Split Fiction, Civilization VIIor Street Fighter 6.
Although it is expensive (nearly 150 euros more than the first Switch), players rushed to pre-order to get their famous day one pass. Unfortunately, and as feared, the shortage is already hitting. Some consumers have received a message from Nintendo stating that their pre-orders will not be honored on the day. Worse, for others, it's outright cancellation. Faced with this shortage, Nintendo has announced that it will no longer accept pre-orders. The console is also no longer available on the My Nintendo Store or on Amazon. The same goes for the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World pack sold at €499.
The best Nintendo Switch 2 deals
However, there is a solution. Head to certain major retailers. At Carrefour, Leclerc or CDiscount, the console is priced at 439.99 euros. The best offer available to date. Regarding the Mario Kart World bundles, don't expect to find a good deal; you'll have to pay the €500 Nintendo charge, regardless of the retailer you choose. Furthermore, some sites like Amazon won't ship their orders until June 9th, as the product is out of stock.
With no fewer than 25 games at the Switch 2's launch, players will have plenty to do. There will even be something for everyone. But it's the star, Mario Kart World, that's taking over the media spotlight. Beyond its highly controversial price (90 euros for the physical version), the successor to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe promises to push the limits of the license with its free mode that allows you to navigate from circuit to circuit, open world style, its survival mode with progressive elimination, and of course its plethora of playable characters, its new circuits, and its 24-player races.
