Nintendo Switch 2 + webcam: compatibility OK
First test and first success. We connected two webcam models to our Switch 2, via the dock, accessories signed Logitech in both cases. These were immediately recognized by the console, in the dedicated menu. The only limitation: despite the 4K capabilities of our second webcam, the stream remained limited to 1080p.
We also subjected our Switch 2 to a more perilous exercise: the association with the insta360 Link 2, a very special webcam since it is equipped with a gimbal, but which therefore requires software to operate. Quite logically, the Switch was only able to capture the audio signal. Apart from these very specific cases, compatibility seems quite broad with more traditional webcams.
Nintendo Switch 2 + mouse: it's stuck
The results are much more lackluster when it comes to mouse compatibility. During our test, we tried to pair several mouse models with Nintendo's new console. Whether it's USB-A, via the dock, USB-C with a dongle, or Bluetooth, the result is the same: a resounding no. Whether it's with a Razer, Logitech, or even HP mouse, we were unable to pair the accessory with the console.
While our test ended in failure, the fact remains that pairing seems possible. Demonstration in support, mice seem welcome... but only in games. To date, only one video of the game Nonunaga's Ambition shows a mouse working on a Switch 2 and even taking priority over the Joy-Con.
Nintendo Switch 2 + keyboard: a case already settled
We won't dwell on the case of keyboards. These were already compatible on the first Switch and are really only used for text input. To put it another way, their interest is very limited on the Nintendo console.
In the end, while the compatibility with third-party webcams is to be welcomed, we can only regret that this opening is limited to mice, at least in the console settings. The question of using mice in games remains, as does that of keyboards (what about WASD), but we will have to wait for the first compatible titles to have a definitive answer to this question.
