One UI 7.0 (Android 15) arrives on the Galaxy A16 5G, with a lot of new features

Samsung is rolling out One UI 7.0, its new Android overlay based on Android 15, for the Galaxy A16 5G (the 4G version received it a few days ago). This inexpensive model, the first in its category to benefit from a commitment of six major updates, thus sees the arrival of the new version of the OS in Europe.

Major changes for the Galaxy A16 which is moving to One UI 7

The A166BXXU3BYEC firmware, approximately 3 GB, brings not only the Android 15 update but also the May 2025 security patch. One UI 7.0 transforms several key elements of the interface, starting with the application icons, the quick settings panel and the loading animation. The notification panel is now separate from the rest, accessible by swiping from the top right corner of the screen.

Among the notable additions, we find the Now Bar which centralizes the activities in progress (media playback, navigation, sports sessions, etc.). Samsung is also introducing new widgets, better lock screen customization, the ability to use large folders, and even hiding app names on the home screen.

Gemini becomes the default assistant

A big new feature of this update is the integration of Gemini, Google's artificial intelligence-based assistant, which replaces Bixby as the primary assistant. It can be accessed by holding down the power button and interacts with several Samsung apps like Notes, Calendar, Clock, and Reminders.

The update also improves security with the Knox Matrix dashboard and an option to block USB connections. Finally, the Camera app has been updated to become more user-friendly, notably by facilitating one-handed navigation. To check if the update is available on your Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.
