Despite its years of service, the PS5 still suffers from a few minor inconveniences, and a large part of the community is calling for improvements on several levels. One of these changes has just been announced, to the delight of players.
A real gain in comfort for PS5 players... and PC
Sony has just made a discreet but eagerly awaited announcement by part of its community: the DualSense controller will soon be able to be paired with multiple devices at the same time. A software update is planned for the end of 2025. A small change on paper, but a real step forward in terms of user comfort.
Until now, using a DualSense controller on multiple devices was a frustrating exercise. Switching from the PS5 to a PC, smartphone, or even a tablet required resetting the Bluetooth pairing every time. This process, while technically simple, ended up discouraging more than one player, especially those who regularly switch between different platforms.
With this update, Sony promises to put an end to this gymnastics. The controller will be able to store multiple connection profiles and allow you to quickly switch between them, without having to "forget" the last device used each time. A feature already present in some competitors, particularly on the Xbox controller side, but which was sorely lacking on the DualSense for the PS5.
A discreet but strategic upgrade
The announcement, made via the official PlayStation account on social networks, has not been accompanied by a demonstration or technical details for the moment. But the reactions were not long in coming. For many users, especially those who play in Remote Play or use a Steam Deck, this feature is a real breath of fresh air.
This development on PS5 is part of Sony's broader desire to open up its ecosystem. Between game ports to PC, the development of PlayStation Link, and persistent rumors about new accessories, the manufacturer is clearly looking to make its peripherals more versatile. And this multi-device capability for the DualSense is a logical, even necessary, step.
While welcomed, the announcement also raises several questions for the PS5. How will switching between devices work in practice? Will you have to press a specific button? Will there be a color system or light indicators to indicate which device is active? And above all, will this function also be extended to the PS VR2 controllers, often criticized for their tedious pairing management? In short, still unanswered questions.
