It's not the robbery of the century, but it could still be remembered. Nearly 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2s, Nintendo's new portable console, were stolen near Denver, Colorado. The robbery took place during a truck transport. The truck was responsible for transporting the consoles to Texas. The incident was reported by the local website Denver7, which reports that the truck driver noticed his cargo was missing during an inspection at a truck stop in Bennett, Colorado. The theft therefore took place somewhere between Washington State and the entrance to Colorado.
When questioned, the driver explained that he was unaware of the contents of his cargo. It has since been reported, and the details of the robbery are known: 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2s intended for the GameSpot store were stolen. Total theft: $1.4 million.
Nintendo will be able to remotely block consoles
Despite the scale of the robbery, it could prove futile for the criminals. Indeed, in the United States, Nintendo has the ability to remotely deactivate a console in the event of illicit behavior. The Japanese company, which has also begun to punish the first Switch 2 pirates across the Atlantic, has not yet communicated on the event, nor on its probable intention to deactivate the consoles.
The launch of the Switch 2 will therefore not only be marked by colossal initial sales figures. History will remember that in addition to the 3.5 million consoles sold in four days, Nintendo had nearly 3,000 Switches robbed somewhere in Colorado. This adds to the console's nascent legend.
