The big day is approaching. This Friday, Geoff Keighley will officially kick off his Summer Game Fest, the first major summer conference of 2025. It will be followed by numerous shows primarily dedicated to the independent scene, with the exception of conferences like the Xbox Games Showcase or the Death Stranding 2 Game Premiere, for example. And it turns out that other surprises are likely to fall. Because while rumors surrounding a potential State of Play have recently multiplied, it could well happen sooner than we imagine.
Could a State of Play be planned for this week?
Indeed, recent clues seem to indicate that it could happen as early as this week, potentially even before Summer Game Fest. The first clue, for example, comes from Shinobi602 on ResetEra. A highly regarded insider in the industry, he made a rare appearance on the forums to respond to a comment from a user who said yesterday: "It's my birthday tomorrow, so that's obviously when they'll announce the State of Play.". To which he simply replied: "Happy birthday :)." A strange coincidence, then, which has led some to imagine that the announcement could come as early as today.
At the same time, while rumors about the imminent announcement of Resident Evil 9 also continue to multiply, everyone is naturally turning their attention to the Summer Game Fest. But the media MP1st, which corroborates according to its own sources that the announcement would indeed be planned for this week, adds however: For the moment, it is assumed that RE9 will be unveiled at the start of the Summer Game Fest on June 6, unless Capcom unveils the game during another conference. With particular emphasis on the "other conference" segment, which could therefore refer to the State of Play.
An imminent announcement?
Suffice it to say that this is starting to be a lot of clues, clues that all seem to converge towards a broadcast this week. And if so, it is not impossible that we are only a few hours away from the announcement of this famous State of Play. Because if PlayStation follows its usual pattern in this matter, it could possibly be announced today, with a broadcast scheduled for tomorrow evening.
