When is Summer Game Fest 2025?
E3 will not be back, which suits Geoff Keighley and his Summer Game Fest. After starting entirely remotely, the former Gametrailers journalist has indeed reproduced the Electronic Entertainment Expo formula with a physical presence for journalists from around the world. It's an opportunity for the biggest publishers to speak at dedicated conferences, such as with Xbox and Ubisoft, or during the highly anticipated opening ceremony, which is watched by millions of people. An event that easily exceeds two hours and systematically reserves "World Premieres", gameplay, updates for existing games, and American-style shows, for better or for worse.
While we're waiting for confirmation of a State of Play - or PlayStation Showcase - like last year... Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed its presence at the opening conference of Summer Game Fest 2025. A launch party that is scheduled for June 6 at 11:00 p.m. (French time). Conferences not to miss and what to expect?
Summer Game Fest 2025 should generally resemble previous years. Therefore, don't expect individual conferences for video game industry players. No, like other editions, most will show up during the launch party. This is THE event to follow to see the biggest announcements. But for the more curious, here is a selection of conferences to prioritize.
Summer Game Fest 2025 - June 6 at 11 p.m.
The Summer Game Fest 2025 conference is therefore the event not to be missed in this marathon of all the conferences planned this summer around upcoming video games. And it's happening very quickly, given that the kickoff will be this weekend. Ahead of this event, Geoff Keighley has already announced a first round of partners with some big, big names.
PlayStation, SEGA, Capcom, Bandai Namco, 2K Games, Square Enix, Xbox, Focus Entertainment, CD Projekt Red, and many others are on the list. Be careful, this doesn't mean there will be any big announcements, but these players will be present in one way or another. So what can we expect in terms of games for this opening ceremony? We already know that the Chinese souls-like Wuchang Fallen Feathers and the MMORPG Chrono Odyssey will be highlighted. But with the first names revealed by the organization, we can also speculate.
While GTA 6 is expected to decline any invitation, Mafia 4 and Borderlands 4 should be there. On the Xbox side, we might get some news on Fable, even if the manufacturer is expected to save its biggest hits for its own conference. Will we get details on Cyberpunk 2 or The Witcher 4 given that CD Projekt Red is mentioned in the list of participants? It seems unlikely for the former, but it's not out of the question that Ciri will honor us with her presence again. But for now, no announcement has been made. If there are any horror fans in the room, know that Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco could offer a new trailer for Directive 8020. And then obviously, with Capcom, some are hoping for something on Resident Evil 9...
Devolver Direct 2025 - June 7 at 2:00 AM
After the flood of trailers and "World Premieres" at the Summer Game Fest 2025 launch party, Devolver Digital will act as WTF guarantor. Once again. The famous independent game publisher should once again offer a crazy presentation, as only they can muster. Logically, we should have news of titles that are still unavailable, like Baby Steps, Skate Story, and perhaps Possessor(s). We're not immune to surprises either, quite the contrary, and we could even have an indirect "competitor" to GTA 6. Devolver has indeed declared its intention to release a game on the same day. We may find out if this message was just a joke or not.
Wholesome Direct 2025 - June 7 at 6:00 p.m.
The Wholesome Direct will also be back. Like the Devolver Direct, it's a presentation dedicated to indie games, but much less overexcited. Here, we'll be talking about titles that are "artistic, inspiring, and rich in emotion". More cute and chill productions. The organizers nevertheless promise announcements from developers of "all sizes" from around the world.
Future Games Show Summer Showcase 2025 - June 7 at 22h00
AA and independent games will also be in the spotlight at the Future Games Show 2025. A presentation that will take place the day after the Summer Game Fest 2025 conference. What to expect from this event? Laura Bailey (Abby in The Last of Us 2) and Matthew Mercer (Vincent in FF7 Rebirth) have been chosen to host. Together, they will offer previews of Directive 8020, an interview to learn more about Mafia The Old Country, and Crisol: Theater of Idols, one of the horror games from Blumhouse Games. Expect exclusive WORLD PREMIEREs and trailers too.
Xbox Games Showcase 2025 + The Outer Worlds 2 - June 8 at 7:00 PM
Microsoft will hold an Xbox Games Showcase + The Outer Worlds 2. Last year, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the star of the conference. For this year, the Redmond company has therefore selected another big hit: Obsidian's next RPG after Avowed. And there's plenty to talk about, since this sequel doesn't yet have a release date. We only know that it's coming in 2025 to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. All the information will be revealed during the second presentation, which will be broadcast after the Xbox Games Showcase. During this presentation, the company promises "a sneak peek at upcoming titles from our studios, as well as incredible new developments from our partners around the world." It remains to be seen whether Fable 4 and Perfect Dark will return or not.
PC Gaming Show 2025 - June 9 at 10:00 p.m.
Are you a PC-only gamer? Then the PC Gaming Show 2025 is for you! Organized by the media outlet PC Gamer, this conference focuses primarily on games that require a mouse and keyboard. On the program, more than 70 games with exclusives and announcements galore, all enhanced with gameplay. The studio behind the Vampire Survivors phenomenon is among the confirmed guests so far.
Death Stranding 2 Preview - June 9 at 4:00 a.m.
One of the most anticipated games of the year, Death Stranding 2, will be making waves at Summer Game Fest 2025. Before launching on June 26, 2025 as a PS5 exclusive, the game will be shown at greater length. And it will be at a completely standalone event at the Orpheum Theatre. "Hideo Kojima will join Geoff Keighley to celebrate the game's upcoming launch with a panel discussion featuring special guests and an exclusive live demo of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach." Who will be the guests? There's no information yet. But several actors are expected to appear to discuss their respective collaborations.
