Tesla is finally preparing to market its Powerwall battery in France

France is one of the notable absentees from the European market for Tesla's Powerwall. While this domestic battery has already been installed in American homes for a decade and has been introduced in several European countries, French consumers are still waiting. This situation could change quickly, however, judging by recent initiatives from the Californian manufacturer's energy branch.

A French delay that raises questions

On its social media, Tesla Energy published a terse but revealing message: "Join our network of certified installers in France." This call for applications is aimed directly at French professionals and is a strong signal of Tesla's intention to establish itself in the French market. The associated form invites interested companies to become a "certified installer or subcontractor," with a notable distinction between "charging" and "charging and Powerwall" products. The latter category represents a significant new development for the French market.

The contrast with other European countries is striking. While French customers are growing impatient, Spanish, Italian, and German customers can already purchase the Tesla storage system for around €7,000. This disparity raises questions about the specificities of the French market and the possible regulatory or commercial obstacles that may have delayed its commercialization.

Currently, it is impossible to order or even request a quote for a Powerwall on Tesla's French website. This absence contrasts with the availability of electric vehicle charging stations, which have already been marketed in France for several years. Tesla's strategy therefore seems to rely on building a network of local partners to facilitate the deployment of its storage technology.

The Powerwall V3, the latest version of the Tesla battery, offers a storage capacity of 13.5 kWh and can deliver a continuous power of 11.5 kW. These technical characteristics are perfectly suited to the needs of the majority of French households. One of the system's major advantages lies in its modularity: several units can be combined to increase the total capacity according to the specific needs of each installation.

This stationary battery is primarily aimed at individuals and professionals equipped with photovoltaic solar panels. It allows them to store excess electricity produced during sunny hours for later consumption. But its use is not limited to solar installations: any consumer wishing to have electrical autonomy in the event of a power outage can benefit from it.

Analysis of the prices charged by our Italian neighbors reveals a rather attractive price positioning. With a cost of 481 euros per kilowatt-hour, the Powerwall is competitive compared to its direct competitors. It is thus positioned favorably compared to the Ecoflow Stream, billed at 533 euros per kWh, while remaining slightly above the Zendure Solarflow Hyper 2000, which comes in at 436 euros per kWh.
