Test of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE+: XXL arguments

Test of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE+: XXL arguments

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ intends to make its mark, as the new benchmark in the Fan Edition range from the Korean manufacturer. Positioned between the high-end models of the S10 series and the more affordable tablets, this lightweight version promises to strike a balance between performance, features, and price.

Design and ergonomics

The Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ stands out first and foremost for its generous size: with a diagonal of 13.1 inches, it surpasses most of its competitors, and competes with the Galaxy Tab S10+, of which it is the direct successor. Its aluminum chassis, its impeccable finishes, and its flat edges inspired by the manufacturer's latest premium devices give it a solid feel in the hand. The thickness remains contained, but slightly larger and heavier than the Tab S10+, at 6 mm, and weighing 664 g. Unsurprisingly, the tablet is IP68 certified and has a fingerprint reader on its edge. Three colors are available: blue, silver, and anthracite.

Nothing very surprising at this level, the Tab S10 FE+ plays in the big league. Its affiliation with Samsung gives it solid experience in terms of ergonomics, and we appreciate the intelligent positioning of the connectors and buttons, which fall perfectly under the fingers. Even if one-handed operation quickly becomes tiring given the size and weight, the grip remains pleasant.

Screen: an assumed compromise

Samsung opts here for a 13.1-inch IPS LCD panel, with a definition of 2880 x 1800 pixels, covering more than 85% of the front surface. The refresh rate reaches 90 Hz, a notch below the 120 Hz of the classic S10 or Ultra models, but sufficient to guarantee very good fluidity in the majority of uses. Once again, Samsung has little left to prove in terms of screen. The brand knows how to do it, and it proves it with its Tab S10 FE+.

The brightness of the panel allows comfortable use indoors and correct outdoors, with a satisfactory contrast for IPS, but very far from the excellence of Amoled in terms of black depth. However, we appreciate the color rendering, which remains satisfactory on this type of screen, despite its few saturation weaknesses.

Performance: balanced, but not very playful

The Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ has an Exynos 1580 chip, engraved in 4 nm, already seen on the Galaxy A56 5G. It is powered by a 2.9 GHz Cortex-A710 core, three 2.6 GHz cores, and four 1.9 GHz Cortex-A520 cores, supported by 8 or 12 GB of RAM depending on the configuration.

In practice, the tablet is responsive, fluid in multitasking, and capable of handling most applications without flinching, including popular games at medium settings. Heating remains under control, even under intensive use. However, it cannot compete with the most powerful models on the market, particularly in terms of GPU performance. It should be limited to graphic design, office work, note-taking, and multimedia, which will ensure a stable and convincing experience at this price. For a more powerful model in terms of graphics, it's better to bet on the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro.

In terms of battery life, the Tab S10 FE+ is equipped with a 10090 mAh battery, identical to that of the S10+, despite a larger screen. Battery life is one of its strong points, since it lasts between 19 and 23 hours in mixed use, which places it among the best on the market. In typical use (browsing, streaming, a little gaming), it can last several days before experiencing the slightest drop in power. Its (relatively) fast 45W charging allows you to fill up in just under an hour and a half. A very decent score, but still average for its category.

Photo, video and multimedia

The photo part is clearly not the priority of the Tab S10 FE+, and it shows. The tablet has a single 12 MP rear sensor, sufficient for document scans or video calls, but limited as soon as the light drops or when you try to zoom. The 12 MP front sensor (f/2.4) ensures decent selfies, but nothing more. The same goes for video, which goes up to 4K at 30 fps, on the front and the back, for good quality video calls. However, you will have to be patient to hope to film from the terminal. The quality of the sensor coupled with the size of the tablet makes video recording tedious.

On the audio side, the tablet makes do with two speakers, but the output is powerful and balanced, more than enough to watch a series or hold a video conference meeting. That's good, because that's ultimately all we ask of it.

Interface and OS

Under the hood, the tablet integrates many features from the Galaxy ecosystem, including the “Circle to Search” function, compatibility with Gemini or Bixby assistants, as well as reading aloud web articles and several image editing tools such as the object eraser or suggesting the best pose for photos.

Samsung is also targeting students with dedicated note-taking tools: AI can format notes and transform handwriting into digital text. A built-in math calculator can solve handwritten equations even when offline, which is especially useful for studying or homework.

While the AI tool suite is a little less extensive than on Galaxy S smartphones, it's still very present and accessible, notably via a dedicated button on the Book Cover Keyboard, which lets you quickly launch the assistant of your choice. The tablet also offers its traditional DeX mode, and can serve as a second screen when connected to a Windows PC on the same Wi-Fi network, a practical option for multitasking.

S Pen and accessories: designed for productivity

The Tab S10 FE+ comes with its S Pen, which charges inductively and attaches magnetically to the edge or back of the tablet. This is undoubtedly one of the tablet's strong points, as it doesn't come with a paid option. It allows you to take notes even with the screen off, draw, navigate with precision and take advantage of the Air Commands launched a few years ago by the brand. The integration of AI, particularly for handwriting recognition, solving mathematical equations or the Circle to Search functionality, enriches the experience. The Book Cover keyboard, sold as an option, completes the productivity arsenal. Presented as an option, it quickly proves to be essential for student and professional uses. It is therefore an accessory that will need to be taken into account in your budget.
