The Black Panther video game is canceled, but there's good news for Marvel fans

Electronic Arts has officially announced the abandonment of the Black Panther video game project and the closure of the studio in charge. However, the company wants to reassure Marvel fans with another announcement.

The Black Panther video game is canceled, but there's good news for Marvel fans

Among the Marvel superheroes brought to the screen, some are more popular than others. Black Panther is a very good example, with the critical and commercial success of the first film featuring him in 2018. Unfortunately, Chadwick Boseman, who played the vigilante, died in 2020, abruptly ending what was to be a long collaboration with Disney. The character himself continues to appear, however. First in the film Wakanda Forever, then in an upcoming video game from publisher Electronic Arts.

Except that EA ultimately canceled the project, closing down the Cliffanger Games studio in charge of developing it. A blow that does not bode well for the future of Marvel video games. Yet this is not the case. Asked by IGN, Electronic Arts wants to be reassuring and reveals what we can expect in the coming years in terms of superhero video game adaptations.

Black Panther will not get its own video game, but fans can rest assured

The game's cancellation does not change the partnership signed between Marvel and EA in 2023. It originally planned three titles: one featuring Iron Man, another Black Panther, and a final one whose main protagonist has not yet been revealed. Does this mean there will only be two games in the end? EA assures us that it will not. The publisher will indeed release 3 Marvel games. It is not yet known who will replace Black Panther, however.

The long-term multi-title relationship between Marvel Games and EA, a creative collaboration focused on original storytelling of various beloved Marvel characters, remains strong. Development of our console and PC titles, starting with […]Iron Man, is led by Motive Studios,” recalls Electronic Arts. Other games are in the works elsewhere, such as Wolverine at Insomniac, Blade by Arkane Lyon, and 1943 Rise of Hydra for Skydance. For the others, there is always the film Black Panther 3.
