We weren't expecting it anymore, WhatsApp will finally integrate the ability to log out of your account on your main device, avoiding having to silence the application or delete it.
WhatsApp isn't making it easy for users who want to temporarily pause their use of the application. Options are currently limited, ranging from pausing notifications, which isn't the most convenient, to simply deleting the app, which must then be downloaded and installed again later. An alternative is to delete your account, but then the user loses their data.
So far, it's been possible to simply disconnect your WhatsApp account on secondary devices, but not on your primary smartphone. Developers should rectify this by integrating a logout option into the service, a very basic feature that exists on most platforms of this type, but which the app currently lacks.
WhatsApp finally gets a logout option
By digging into the code of the latest WhatsApp beta version (2.25.17.37), Android Authority discovered mentions of a logout feature, and managed to enable it. You can see it in action in the screenshots below. It can be accessed by going to the app's Settings, then to the Account section. It then appears at the very bottom, just below the account deletion option.
When you press the logout button, WhatsApp offers two options: deleting all data and preferences, or keeping them. The former is very similar to deleting your account, but keeps you in groups, which the latter does not allow. The second works as a way to take a break; you simply log back in to resume your activity as if nothing had happened. This solution seems more appropriate than fiddling with notification options to gain a little peace and quiet.
This disconnection function is being tested internally and could soon be deployed in a public beta version, before being made available to all users later.
