There will be sport at Le Mans 2025, the weekend of June 14 and 15. During the endurance race at the Bugatti circuit, Peugeot and Alpine will present two new electric and sporty models, alongside the event. The new Alpine A390 has already been unveiled in photos, which is not the case for the new Peugeot e-208 GTI, which was expected before the end of the year, but which remains a secret.
The two electric cars are very different in terms of size, while on one side we find a sort of faux-SUV from Alpine, and a city car from Peugeot. But both intend to prove that they still have a soul familiar to motorsport, despite the context and the transition to electric. At Peugeot, the acronym GTI has never before been used to refer to an electric car.
At Alpine, the goal is to prove that, with the size of a family car, the new A390 will be able to offer just as much excitement as an A110. The car will use the same principle of a false combustion engine present on the new A290, based on the platform of a Renault R5 E-Tech. Its design is also based on another model from the diamond brand: the Scénic E-Tech, which can be seen in the passenger compartment.
An e-208 GTI until 2028
At Peugeot, despite the novelty of the e-208 GTI, the sporty inspiration in the Stellantis group's electric cars is not a first. The city car will thus inherit the "Stellantis Motorsport" powertrain present on the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce, the Abarth 600e. It will give the e-208 GTI 280 hp for a 0 to 100 km/h time that should be less than 6 seconds.
This sporty version will accompany the 208 range, which will remain on the market until 2027. In June, in two years, a new 208 will appear and will be completed the following year by a new GTI version, Stellantis has already announced. 3 years to shine, four years after the end of the e-208 PSE project, abandoned in 2021.
