It was last summer that Disney announced the third installment in its The Incredibles saga. At D23, the film's logo was unveiled, and Brad Bird was confirmed as director after directing the first two episodes. However, we just learned today that a major change has been made by Pixar.

The first film, released in 2004, was a box office and critical success. The production won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and 14 years later, its sequel generated $1.24 billion in revenue worldwide. It's no surprise that Disney decided to release a third installment, which was officially announced last August at D23. And to stick with a winning formula, the studio is entrusting the project to Brad Bird again.

Pixar decides to make a major change in production

Except that Pixar has shaken things up regarding The Incredibles 3. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, the film has just changed directors. Out goes Brad Bird, now it's Peter Shohn, to whom we owe Elementary and The Good Dinosaur. According to the American media, the reason for this change of director was that Brad Bird has a scheduling problem. He is currently in pre-production on an animated film titled Ray Gunn. However, he will be writing the script for this new installment and will also be a producer alongside Dana Murray, who won an Oscar for Soul.

Peter Sohn and Brad Bird know each other well, as Sohn has collaborated on all of Bird's animated films, including the first two Incredibles and Ratatouille. Brad Bird and Pete Docter, Pixar Studios' chief creative officer, chose him to take over the direction of Incredibles 3.

For now, we don't yet know the details of the plot of this next installment. We know that Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Samuel L. Jackson will reprise their roles by dubbing the characters from the film. Disney has not yet announced the release date for Incredibles 3.
