The next Xbox is official and it will have a feature we all love

The release of next-gen consoles isn't coming any time soon, but PlayStation and Xbox have already launched hostilities. During a recent business update, Hideaki Nishino, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced that the PS6 was "a core focus" for the company. "We are committed to exploring a new and better way for players to enjoy our content and services," he added. This is a way to ensure that the Japanese company won't stray far from consoles. And that the PlayStation 6 will obviously still be central.

The next-gen Xbox consoles already mentioned

This week definitely holds many surprises regarding the next generation of video game consoles. While Big N has just launched its Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation has very briefly mentioned the PS6, the next Xbox has been made official by Sarah Bond, the brand's president. "I'm delighted to announce that we have established a multi-year strategic partnership with AMD to design silicon across a portfolio of devices. Including our next-gen Xbox consoles, in your living room and in your hands." She doesn't specify it explicitly, but she refers at the end of her sentence to the ROG Xbox Ally. The brand's first portable console in partnership with ASUS.

Furthermore, Sarah Bond has explicitly announced the return of a feature that we all love and that is a very important criterion for many: namely backward compatibility with games from previous generations (Xbox, One, Series X|S). "Together with AMD, we're advancing the state-of-the-art in gaming silicon to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation to unlock a deeper level of visual quality and immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced by the power of AI, while maintaining compatibility with your existing Xbox game library." As we can read, AI, which is already used for upscaling technologies, for example, will also be one of the concerns. No release window has been announced yet, but documents have revealed that the PS6 and Xbox Series 2 could be available in 2028.
