Some were hoping for the integration of a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC in the Nothing Phone 3, but ultimately this will not be the case.

The Nothing Phone 3 might disappoint you on one crucial point

The Nothing Phone 3 will be officially presented on July 1st, but the brand has already started sharing information about its next smartphone. And one of these revelations might just disappoint you. While the manufacturer had teased a high-end smartphone, the device will not be equipped with the best chip on the market (outside of Apple) currently.

Carl Pei has indeed confirmed that the Nothing Phone 3 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC. This is a very good component, but it does not offer the same performance as a Snapdragon 8 Elite. For example, it makes concessions by not supporting 8K video recording, 4K slow motion at 120 frames per second, or 5G mmWave connectivity. These features will therefore not be available, unlike competing premium smartphones running the Snapdragon 8 Elite, or even the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Nothing Phone 3 without the Snapdragon 8 Elite

In itself, this choice is not very surprising. The Nothing Phone 2 features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was available at the time of its release. To reduce costs, the manufacturer is not opting for the more expensive chip. But what may be disappointing here is that Carl Pei had hinted that there could be a change at this level for this generation. Whether it was a communication error on his part or a problem with the public's understanding, the result is the same: some say they are disappointed by this choice, especially since the Nothing Phone 3 could also lose its very original Glyph interface.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 has an eight-core CPU, consisting of a 3.2 GHz Cortex-X4, three 3 GHz Cortex-A720s, two 2.8 GHz Cortex-A720s, and two 2 GHz Cortex-A720s. It is therefore deprived of the new Oryon cores developed by Qualcomm and present on the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The Adreno GPU uses the same architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Elite GPU, but with lower performance. For AI, an NPU is announced that is 44% faster than that of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.
