Samsung could introduce a feature previously reserved for more expensive models to one of its most affordable smartphones. This advancement would aim to improve the photo quality of budget devices. A leak suggests the upcoming arrival of optical image stabilization on the Galaxy A17.
Photo quality has become an essential criterion, even on the simplest phones. Manufacturers are therefore looking to integrate more advanced technologies into their entry-level models. This would expand access to sharper images without driving up prices.
According to information relayed by the Korean media ETNews, Samsung is considering equipping the future Galaxy A17 with optical image stabilization (OIS). This would be a first in the Galaxy A1x series, the manufacturer's most affordable range. The goal would be to offer sharper photos, even in the case of shaking or low light, without significantly increasing the final cost of the product.
Samsung would offer optical stabilization to the Galaxy A17 to improve photos without increasing the price
The OIS technology allows limiting blur caused by hand movements, by physically adjusting the camera lens. It is already present on several mid- and high-end models, such as the Galaxy A25 or the Galaxy A36 launched this year. Until now, the Galaxy A1x series had never been entitled to it. The Galaxy A17 could thus become the least expensive smartphone from Samsung to be equipped with it. This new feature would mark a significant change for the series, which has often been criticized for its limited photo performance.
According to the same media outlet, ETNews, Samsung is studying technical solutions to integrate OIS without increasing the manufacturing budget. One of the avenues being considered would be a hybrid stabilization system, which would be less expensive to produce. This strategy would make it possible to democratize a technology that has so far been reserved for higher-end models. If the information is confirmed, the Galaxy A17 would offer much better photo functions than the Galaxy A16, released earlier this year, which does not have it. This could appeal to a wide audience, especially in markets where affordable models dominate.
