On May 18, The Witcher 3 officially celebrated its tenth anniversary in a variety of ways. In addition to hosting a worldwide concert, CD Projekt RED's iconic title also received the announcement of a "final update" to add cross-platform mod support, including for consoles. But it might not be the final injection of content for Geralt of Rivia's last adventure as the main protagonist.
Geralt might come out of retirement one last time in The Witcher 3
While CD Projekt RED is actively working on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, it seems the Polish studio still has some left over from its previous titles, The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Both are due for major updates later this year, and its latest title is also expected to finally receive a second expansion, developed by Virtuos Games, at least according to a recent discovery on the LinkedIn profile of one of the studio's employees behind Oblivion Remastered and Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake.
According to Polish podcasters Rock and Boris, The Witcher 3 could receive a similar treatment. Namely, the arrival of additional content in 2026, not directly from CD Projekt RED, but from Fool's Theory, which is also working on the Remake of the very first game under Unreal Engine 5. The podcasters indicate that this would take the form of a huge expansion similar to Blood and Wine, but this statement should be taken with a grain of salt.
However, it would not be completely out of the question that, to keep fans waiting until the release of The Witcher 4 in 2027/2028, The Witcher 3 could be the subject of new quests to add a little context and bridge the gap between the two games. Remember that the next installment will mark the beginning of a new saga, this time with Ciri as the main protagonist. To bridge the gap of several years between Geralt's last adventure and the succession of his adopted daughter, the injection of new content could provide some additional content while waiting for the sequel. However, we'll have to wait for more official information to be sure.
