The Switch 2 has reportedly already fallen into the hands of a player, who has revealed several details and his first impressions of Nintendo's hybrid console.
A lucky guy claims to have gotten his hands on a Switch 2 a few days early (the console is released on June 5, 2025). He explains that the device is locked and that its physical games require an update to work, which will not be available until the official launch. But he was still able to configure Nintendo's new machine and offered to answer questions on Reddit.
First of all, he says he's very satisfied with the screen. He believes it's “much better than the [Switch's] OLED screen, brighter and with incredible pixel density.”. He adds that “I don't miss the perfect blacks at all.” According to him, “the colors and brightness are there […] The HDR, even on the home screen, really makes a good impression. And the 120 Hz is already noticeable.” These impressions will have to be confirmed in-game, since he currently only has access to the menus.
Screen, design... the Switch 2 makes a good first impression
He also talks about mouse mode, which allows you to use the Joy-Con like a PC mouse. “It works perfectly. I'll see after long periods of play. For now, it's quite comfortable, your hands rest almost entirely on the side of the Joy-Con,” he says. He adds that a short tutorial with a microgame requires you to interact with a fake menu and three balloons to pop to familiarize yourself with the functionality. Remember that the Switch 2 is also compatible with wired USB mice.
As for the Joy-Con, he describes a more snappy sound when they are connected to the Switch 2. They seem much more robust to him than those of the older models, going so far as to say that they don't sound like they are detachable, and that they could be considered a complete unit, as is the case with the Switch Lite. This bodes well for the quality of the console's design.
"There are some nice little interactions here and there, for example: some animations are slightly more jerky and the new menu sounds are very modern and refined, almost giving a personality to the Switch 2", he says. And to find out more, we invite you to consult our hands-on with the Switch 2.
