It's safe to say that the last few years have been particularly eventful at Embracer. Between mass buyouts, layoffs galore, studio closures, new branch openings, and name changes, we're not really sure where to turn. And it's not quite over yet, since, as we've just learned, the company will also be undergoing a change of leadership this summer. A change that, for Tomb Raider fans, could bode well for the future.
Embracer Group is changing its CEO
The news broke yesterday: Lars Wingefors, co-founder and current CEO of Embracer Group, will be stepping down from his position as of August 1st. He won't be going very far, however, as he will instead occupy the position of Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, whose objective will be to focus on "strategic initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and capital allocation." For his part, Phil Rogers, manager of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal since 2008, will then take over the company to replace him. And inevitably, this information hasn't gone unnoticed by Tomb Raider fans. After all, it's no small thing to see the man who has been in charge of the studios in charge of the license for so many years find himself in such a position. Does this mean he'll be pushing Lara Croft's next adventures beyond the company's control? Probably not. But at least we know they're going to be in good hands. Even if, as we know only too well, business remains an extremely complex environment.
A good omen for the future of Tomb Raider?
It now remains to be seen what real consequences this will have on Tomb Raider, whose next installment has been sorely awaited for several years. Because while fans have recently been able to enjoy two rounds of remasters with Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered and Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, they are also, and above all, eagerly awaiting some news of the twelfth episode of the saga. And unfortunately, it wasn't during the Summer Game Fest, which had just ended, that this happened.
