This time, we can say it: the summer conference ball is officially underway. While we thought Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest would be the first to kick things off, it was ultimately PlayStation that had the privilege last night with the latest edition of its State of Play. The Japanese publisher was then the first in a long series of conferences to come, a series that, however, will visibly take place without the presence of some major publishers in the industry. Starting with Ubisoft, whose absence is confirmed.
No Ubisoft Forward this summer
Indeed, while many publishers like Capcom, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, and Nintendo had made a habit of holding their own conferences around June, all of them are currently conspicuous by their absence. And while we may not necessarily be safe from seeing them announce an event at the last minute, as PlayStation did this week, it is now certain that the festivities will have to take place without any dedicated statement from Ubisoft.
This is in any case what journalist Stephen Totilo stated in a series of messages published on BlueSky. "Ubisoft Forward, which has been a showcase for the company's games both digitally and in person almost every June, will not take place this year," assured the Game File founder. He then added: "A representative told me, 'We're always eager to connect with our players and showcase our games... We're continuing to explore opportunities to share updates, and we look forward to sharing more information at a later date."
Announcements are still to be expected
That said, players can rest assured: the absence of Ubisoft Forward does not mean that no announcements will be made from the publisher this summer. Because while we know that the latter will not be present at Summer Game Fest either, Totilo tells us that it will be present at two other conferences: at IGN Live, on June 7-8, and at the PC Gaming Show, on June 8. Ubisoft has also already confirmed its participation in Gamescom, which will be held from August 20 to 24.
"I don't think Ubisoft has a big line-up for the rest of the year. Knowing that it is also in cost-cutting mode, it is therefore not surprising that they are skipping it," the journalist rightly adds. It now remains to be seen whether we can We can also expect a few small surprises from the publisher, who, as we know, has multiple projects in the pipeline. These include the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, expected in 2026, and that of Splinter Cell, which has recently been in the news again. Not to mention, of course, the numerous Assassin's Creed projects in development.
