Ubisoft: One of its best games becomes permanently free for everyone

Ubisoft may not be completely out of the woods yet, but Assassin's Creed Shadows has clearly given the publisher a boost. As a reminder, for several months now, the company has been struggling with its games, both critically and commercially. But an "old" title, one of Ubi's best games, should also help the company recover after deciding to make it partially free on all platforms.

Ubisoft has made a habit of offering free trials of its biggest games. Among the titles that come up (very) often, there is the multiplayer FPS Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. After ten years of service, the game is definitely adopting a free format, at least in part. The Rainbow Six Siege X update makes this very popular episode playable for free, but not in its entirety. "Siege will offer free access to its most accessible game modes (Quick Play, Unranked) and a limited selection of agents to new players who join us on June 10, 2025. Other agents can be unlocked through progression. To play Ranked mode or immediately access more agents, they will have to purchase a premium edition," Ubisoft specifies.

As we told you during our Rainbow Six Siege X preview, the free-to-play version released on June 10, 2025 by Ubisoft includes the 5v5 and 6v6 Dual Front modes, a few agents, and of course the store and the season pass. In 6v6 Dual Front, which is a completely new, permanent mode that takes place on the game's largest map, is however a PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC exclusive.

If you've been playing for a long time, Ubisoft doesn't plan to delete your progress. All of your agents' progress and their inventory will be brought back. Veteran rewards, as well as badges, are available as soon as you log in. A nice little treat. For full access to all Rainbow Six Siege content, you'll have to pay if you've never purchased it.
