3.3 million. That's the number of copies sold for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 since its launch about thirty days ago. A score that is, casually, all the more impressive given that the game is included in the Xbox Game Pass catalog at no additional cost. For Sandfall Interactive, this is undoubtedly a great success, which even goes beyond what they had imagined according to François Meurisse. And inevitably, this can only motivate them for the sequel, which they are already thinking about.
The aftermath of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is taking shape
This is indeed what the game's producer confirmed in the columns of Games Industry, where he declared the following: "There will be another video game, that's for sure". Well, let's not kid ourselves, this isn't a big revelation either. After all, for any studio, and even more so for the creators of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the release of a successful game is always naturally accompanied by the launch of a new project. But it's still nice to have it confirmed in person.
Unfortunately, as one might expect, we'll have to be patient for the time being before discovering what's behind this second project. "I can't wait to delve deeper into the ideas we already have for the next game," enthuses Meurisse, without specifying whether it will be a sequel to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 or a new franchise. Because while Sandfall has already confirmed its desire to expand the game's universe, particularly through a film adaptation, there is no guarantee at the moment that a second installment will follow quickly.
A second project full of great ideas
But whatever the case, now that the studio has acquired a solid international reputation thanks to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there is no doubt that their next title will be closely followed by the public. As for the team, they can't help but rejoice at the idea of being able to put to good use all the things they have learned in recent years. “The team has grown, acquired new skills throughout production. Many of them were juniors when we started. We learned to work together,” confides Meurisse.
“So I’m looking forward to the next project, because we’ll be starting from a more efficient position than when we founded the company five years ago. And that [comes] with higher expectations along the way, so it will be a real challenge. But I can say that we – and Guillaume [Broche] in particular – have some great ideas for the next game.” Suffice to say, we can’t wait to see what they are. And whether it's a sequel to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 or not, we'll definitely be there.
