To extend your laptop's battery life, Windows 11 provides a power saver. But it leaves little room for the user to manage power. Windows 11 does offer energy recommendations, but when it comes to managing the power saver mode itself, the options remain quite limited.
You can choose to enable or disable the mode, enable it from a certain battery percentage, and automatically reduce screen brightness when using the power saver. However, things could be moving in the right direction. Microsoft is preparing a new, smarter adaptive power saving mode that would automatically adjust power consumption based on your usage habits.
Windows 11 will have its adaptive power saving mode
The very likely arrival of an adaptive power saving mode in Windows 11 was revealed by Pantomofearth. The leaker, who has made it his specialty to dissect insider builds of Windows 11, has indeed discovered this new saving mode well hidden in the depths of the OS.
The option is not actually accessible by default in Windows 11, but it is entirely possible to activate it manually, provided that you have previously installed the latest insider build of the operating system. To take advantage of it, simply run the command vivetool /enable /id:56401475
from the ViVeTool utility available on Github. Once the feature is enabled in Windows, a new Adaptive option should appear in the machine's Power Settings.
For now, Microsoft is still testing it and has not yet activated it in the OS interface. According to Phantomofearth, this new energy saving mode would be powered by the Windows Health and Optimized Experience service.
