Your AirPods should soon know when you fall asleep

Your AirPods should soon know when you fall asleep

Last September, during the launch of the iPhone and AirPods 4, Apple unveiled a new hearing aid feature for the AirPods Pro 2. These models were released three years ago now, and the manufacturer continues to improve and enhance them. This support for the earphones will continue this year: during WWDC, Apple will give a sneak peek at the new software features for the AirPods.

Even more features for the AirPods

Among these new features—revealed by 9to5Mac and obviously not confirmed by Apple—there is one that will be appreciated by those who have gotten into the habit of falling asleep while listening to music or podcasts. Most audio or podcast playback apps have sleep functions after a certain time, but you still need to know and use them.

AirPods would be able to detect when the user is falling asleep, which would automatically pause the audio playback. Another feature with great potential: controlling the iPhone or iPad camera. A gesture on the stem of an earbud would allow you to take a photo.

Content creators might appreciate this other new feature: AirPods would integrate an "Audio Mix" function for recording voice, with identification of ambient noise and its separation from the voice. On the hearing aid front, it should be possible to turn off conversation detection with a head gesture, rather than having to stop it by pressing the stem for a moment.

Finally, Apple is reportedly working to improve the synchronization of multiple pairs of AirPods with iPadOS. The goal is to make life easier for teachers in a classroom, where students have to listen to something coming out of an iPad. A long and tedious connection operation currently.
