YouTube has been a fixture on Nintendo platforms for a long time, in fact since the 3DS! The Wii, Wii U, and then the Switch have all had their own versions of the video sharing app, and the Switch 2 will be no exception. Why talk about the future? Because the Switch 1 version of the app isn't yet compatible with the new console.
Historic success of the Switch 2 launch
"We're working with Nintendo to bring YouTube to the Switch 2 soon," indicated YouTube on social media. The app can be downloaded and installed on the console, but it is impossible to launch it.
An update is therefore not long in coming, especially since the Switch 2 is well on its way to breaking all sales records; rumor has it that the console exceeded 3 million units on the first day (!) of its launch. The previous record was set by the PS4, which sold one million units in its first 24 hours.
Nintendo is testing Switch 1 games and apps for the Switch 2. As of June 5, more than 15,000 third-party games (and 122 Nintendo games) were running smoothly. The list of incompatible apps clearly shows YouTube.
