The price of YouTube Premium subscriptions continues to climb. While we announced a few months ago that the price of YouTube Premium subscriptions would explode in France, Google has just confirmed the application of a hefty price increase for the Premium Family subscription.
YouTube Premium Family has increased by 60% since 2022
It was when YouTube Premium Family subscribers opened their inboxes that they discovered the bad news. In an email sent to its subscribers, the platform announced that the Premium Family offer, currently billed at €23.99 per month, would increase to €29.99 per month, an increase of 25%. This new pricing will be implemented starting July 17th.
An increase of 6 euros compared to the current rate and 12 euros compared to the price at the launch of the offer. The YouTube Premium Family offer was launched at 17.99 euros per month, before rising to 23.99 euros per month in 2023. With this new rate of 29.99 euros per month, the Premium Family offer has increased by nearly 60% in the space of three years.
Apparently, this price increase only concerns the Premium Family subscription. The Premium Individual and Student plans, billed respectively at 12.99 euros and 7.99 euros per month, remain, for the moment, at the same price.
Premium Benefits That Aren't Really Premium
Subscribing to YouTube Premium is supposed to offer users a number of benefits. In addition to access to YouTube Music and the absence of ads, YouTube Premium lets you enjoy content offline, as well as in the background. But do these benefits really justify the ever-increasing prices? Probably not, because to enjoy YouTube services without ads or in the background, more and more users are abandoning the official mobile app on their smartphones.
While some use unbridled versions of YouTube, such as Vanced (which Google had shut down, but which quickly came back online), others have turned to the mobile web version of YouTube. Opened in a web browser like Brave or Vivaldi, it allows you to get rid of ads, but above all, to enjoy YouTube in the background or with the screen off on iOS and Android.
