Announcements expected this week at Apple: upcoming Mac news

This week, Apple is in the spotlight with a series of upcoming announcements regarding its flagship products. Expectations are high following recent statements by Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. Between updates and new innovations, here’s a look at the announcements that could mark the week.

Launch of the new iMacs with the M4 chip

The iMacs will certainly be in the spotlight this week. The Cupertino company seems ready to unveil a new generation of these desktop computers, equipped with the brand new M4 chip. This upgrade should offer much higher performance thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence.

Users can expect iMacs with at least 16 GB of RAM, which would represent a significant step up from previous models. This RAM upgrade would notably meet the growing needs in terms of multitasking and heavy data processing.

Reinventing the design for the Mac mini

Another key product that is expected to undergo a major transformation is the Mac mini. Since its launch in 2005, the Mac mini has seen few external changes, but this year could be the year of change. The new opus, ever more compact, promises to be revolutionary. Rumors have it that this model would be comparable in size to that of the Apple TV.

The move to USB-C ports to replace the old USB-A ports would also signal a notable modernization, aimed at aligning the Mac mini with current connectivity standards. These improvements should appeal to fans of discrete and high-performance computer configurations.

New variations of the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips

In line with its usual strategy, Apple plans to launch improved versions of its flagship M4 chip, called M4 Pro and M4 Max. These high-end versions should bring substantial improvements in performance and capacity, especially to meet the demands of artificial intelligence applications and other intensive tasks.

These chips are expected in particular in the next MacBook Pro models, which should include at least 16 GB of unified memory in their base configuration, unlike the 8 GB of memory offered by default on previous models.

The MacBook Pro in the front line

The presentation of the MacBook Pro equipped with the M4 chip will probably be one of the highlights of this week dedicated to announcements. With reinforced CPU and GPU configurations (10 cores each), it would position itself as a powerful tool for professionals and content creators.

This new model should also integrate major advances related to artificial intelligence, making these machines even more competitive in the face of current market needs.

Anticipations around the MacBook Air and Mac Studio

Although most of the speculation revolves around the iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Pro, we should not forget the MacBook Air and Mac Studio. An M4-powered MacBook Air is almost certain, but it may not be available until 2025. This model is expected to retain its current design with the only notable change being the new chip, furthering the performance gap between the 8GB and 16GB RAM models.

The often underrated Mac Studio is also expected to get an update with the M4, although it could come later than the other launches scheduled for this week.

To end the speculation, Apple hardware engineering chief John Ternus confirmed that this week will be packed with new features. Three consecutive days of announcements have been scheduled, each dedicated to a new product line. The first announcement, regarding the M4 iMac, raises expectations to new levels of performance. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to follow with equally promising reveals.
