Will Apple Intelligence be the killer app that sets the Vision Pro sales on fire? Probably not. But the addition of generative AI features will be a way to revive interest (maybe) around the mixed reality headset. Mark Gurman predicts that the first beta of visionOS 2.4, which should be delivered next week, like iOS 18.4, will integrate Apple Intelligence.
Reviving interest around the Vision Pro
Features like writing assistance tools, the Image Playground image generator, and Genmoji will be part of it, assures the Bloomberg snoop. Incidentally, this will make the Vision Pro the fourth hardware platform to integrate Apple Intelligence, after the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With its M2 chip and 16GB of RAM, the device is more than capable of supporting all of these features.
And European users will benefit too, since this batch x.4 of Apple's operating systems will open AI functions to the old continent. Apple Intelligence on the Vision Pro is also a way for Apple to stay in the race against Google and Android XR, which largely relies on Gemini. Apple has the advantage of offering a product that is available for purchase, which is not yet the case for its future rival.
That's not all. visionOS 2.4 will also include a new application grouping immersive video content; currently, you have to go and find them in the Apple TV app. This application would also aggregate 3D photos and panoramas available elsewhere, which would be a way to highlight the Vision Pro's capabilities in terms of viewing content.
Finally, this update would thoroughly review the guest mode, which on paper allows you to easily share the headset with friends and family without having to reconfigure everything. In reality, this is still complicated, and it is one of the obstacles to adopting a Vision Pro for the family or in business. The new sharing process would go through an iPhone, on which the owner of the headset would choose the applications that the guest can use.
Apple hopes that this new mode will boost sales, although we can strongly doubt it given the asking price (starting at €4,000). In any case, it is encouraging to see that the manufacturer does not intend to abandon its mixed reality headset!
