Apple TV+, which launched in 2019, has managed to make its way into the unforgiving world of SVOD platforms. Series such as Severance, Ted Lasso, Silo and Shrinking have helped the Apple brand's service position itself as a credible alternative to Netflix, even though it was not easily accessible on Android. For the past five years, users of the operating system wishing to watch Apple TV+ films or series have had to use a web browser. Now, they can download the Apple TV app to discover Apple TV+ content or Major League Soccer matches with the MLS Season Pass.
An experience as intuitive as on Apple devices
Apple is adapting to the world of its best enemy by offering an application on the Play Store on devices with Android 10 or newer. The Cupertino company specifies that this concerns both phones and tablets running Android, but also foldable devices. The application has "flagship" features, such as Continue to watch to resume playing content on any device, or the Watchlist which groups together all the content that the user wants to watch later. Options such as playing via a Wi-Fi or cellular connection and the ability to download content to watch offline are also offered. However, it is not possible to rent or buy movies, as is possible on Apple products.
With this new application, Android users will enjoy a user experience comparable to that offered on iPhone, iPad or Apple TV. In addition, this arrival is added to the existing applications for connected televisions and Android TV boxes.
Obviously, this launch is no coincidence and the brand with the apple insists on the possibility of subscribing to Apple TV+ and MLS Season Pass from a Google Play account on Android devices and Google TV. Apple has every incentive to continue expanding access to its services and growing its streaming platform’s audience, as rumors surface that Apple is struggling to build a solid subscriber base for Apple TV+. Since its launch, the platform has claimed 2,553 nominations and 538 awards for Apple Original series, films and documentaries.
A 7-day free trial to convince
Before subscribing for 9.99 euros/month, Apple TV+ offers a seven-day free trial and it is possible to take advantage of this period to discover the two seasons of Severance and the three of Ted Lasso. Other successes of the platform include Slow Horses, The Morning Show, Presumed innocent, Shrinking, Hijack, Loot, Palm Royale, Masters of the Air and films like Wolfs, The Instigators, The Family Plan, Killers of the Flower Moon or CODA.
Finally, the arrival of Apple TV+ on Android coincides with the return of Major League Soccer on February 22 via the MLS Season Pass. This subscription allows you to follow all MLS matches and follow the adventures of superstar Lionel Messi and French players like Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud at Los Angeles FC or Arnaud Souquet at Chicago Fire.
