Buying a smartwatch when you're an athlete often comes down to a choice between two very different philosophies. You'll have to decide between prioritizing the sports aspect to the detriment of more general features (listening to music with the app of your choice, calls, etc.) or prioritizing the smartwatch aspect, to the detriment of advanced sports features. Add to that the fact that a watch specialized in sports will generally have better battery life.
The site Garmin Rumors, which specializes in information about Garmin, an American manufacturer known for its well-made sports watches, has spotted a new feature for Garmin watches that brings them closer to their ultra-connected cousins.
ComingUp, or the introduction of To-do lists on Garmin
This is an application called ComingUP, released in version 1.0 on February 10, 2025 on the manufacturer's store, Connect IQ.
Its operation is quite simple. Once the application is installed, a new tile appears at the very bottom of your list on your Garmin. There, you can synchronize ComingUP with one of the three To-do list applications at your disposal:
- Google Tasks;
- Microsoft To Do;
- Todoist.
We connected each of the three services in turn to see what was going on and it seems that the application still needs a little work to be fully usable.
Indeed, to connect each application, the watch sends you back to your smartphone and asks you to connect to the targeted service via a private browser contained in Connect IQ. While Google Tasks did not pose any problems during installation, Microsoft To Do displayed three errors before agreeing to synchronize. As for Todoist, we simply couldn't get it to sync, due to a blocking message related to connecting via a Google account.
Once your favorite application is connected, the integration seems pretty good. On Microsoft ToDo for example, you have access to your different lists in which you can find your tasks. Each one can be validated with a click, which is practical.
You can also add tasks from your watch, which is at least complex on devices without a touch keyboard. You can also receive notifications for dated tasks.
If you want to install it, know that the compatible watches are rather recent. On the Forerunner series for example, the manufacturer stops at the penultimate series. The Forerunner 255 can therefore benefit from it, as can the Forerunner 165, but the Forerunner 245 must pass its turn.
