The Pixel 4a is going to benefit from a new update. Google is in fact sending an email to all owners of the smartphone to inform them of the upcoming deployment of a software update for its device. The smartphone, whose last major update dates back to 2020, but which nevertheless benefited from a corrective update in August 2023, will thus benefit from a new update. Be careful, however, this refresh will not bring any new features. It will mainly focus on stability and improved battery performance.
A compensation program for battery performance
Google explains that the lithium-ion battery of its Pixel 4a was affected by performance issues. And the firm has taken matters into its own hands: it will automatically deploy, over the next few days, an update aimed at improving the autonomy of the devices concerned. The Mountain View company has also set up a replacement program for the Pixel 4a battery. You can check if your device is eligible by going to this page.
If your device is eligible, you will be eligible for a free battery replacement. However, this option does not appear to be available in all countries. Google offers two other options for affected devices. If your Pixel 4a is affected by the problem, you can request a partial refund (of around fifty dollars, or its equivalent in euros), or a discount towards the purchase of a new Pixel.
To make this request, you will first need to enter the device's IMEI. You will then need to enter your email address, postal address (and country of residence), and phone number. Once the form is completed, Google indicates that you will be contacted within a few weeks to finalize the procedure.
