The arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 seems closer than ever. While it's one of the main ones we're waiting for in 2024, we're definitely not the only ones. Rumors are flying, and some are predicting a release in the first quarter of the year. With January slowly coming to an end and no official announcement, the possibility is becoming less and less likely.
But one thing is certain, the console is coming. In a report on the state of the video game industry, published at the Game Developers Conference, we learn that many developers are patiently waiting for the release of the Switch 2, and are using their time to anticipate it as much as possible. Out of 3,000 respondents, no fewer than 240 are concerned by the question. This means that 7% of developers are currently working on games for the Nintendo Switch 2, or at least the one that will succeed the current generation.
Already a working tool
While the public still has no official information on the product, the developers have already been able to see what it is capable of. At Gamescom 2023, rumors claimed that presentations took place and that the console could reach the performance of the PS4, or even the PS5. While we don't really believe in the latest proposition, it is certain that Nintendo's next machine will pack more power, if not a new design and original features.
Getting ahead is not a problem. Even if the Nintendo Switch 2 was not supposed to arrive this year, we do know that several titles will be available as soon as the console launches. We don't know anything about these games yet, or even which studios are behind these projects. On the Nintendo side itself, we expect original installments of iconic franchises, like a Mario Kart 9. The end of the generation will still have seen the birth of Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, which is already a great showcase for the current Switch.
