Today we are used to smartphones with huge screens and a large number of photo sensors on the back. But in 2013, the Lumia 1020 seemed like an alien. Already because Nokia had decided to deck out the hull in a garish yellow, topped with a 4mm bump housing a 41 mpx lens — very rare for the time — capable of performing feats, particularly for night shots.
Frankenstein's smartphone
We unfortunately know what happened to the Lumia range, bought by Microsoft at the same time as Nokia's mobile business in 2013, and which the Windows publisher buried without flowers or crowns five years later.
The Lumia 1020 is back in the news thanks to the handyman OceanDepth95028 who set outto replace the guts of the smartphone with those of an iPhone SE 3. The best of both worlds, in short!
This Frankenstein phone works pretty well except for Apple Pay, and especially the famous original photo sensor and its flash; you'll have to make do with the iPhone's 12 MP. The Touch ID fingerprint sensor, normally integrated into the iPhone's home button, is on the back, just below the photo sensor in the hump. The SIM card has not moved (on the edge at the top), and it is also functional, just like the 5G of the iPhone.
The LCD panel of the iPhone SE has been reused here, but not the glass front that is that of the Lumia. On the other hand, it was necessary to make a little space because the screen of the iPhone has a diagonal of 4.7 inches, compared to 4.5 inches for the Lumia. The Lightning port takes the place of the Micro USB port. On the other hand, if the jack port is still present, it is no longer of any use here.
This “NokiApple LumiPhone 1020 SE” runs on iOS 18.3.1, like a normal iPhone. Unfortunately, it is a unique model that is impossible to buy…
