Only the "iPhone 17 Air" would be entitled to titanium

Apple could reduce the use of titanium on the next iPhone 17 range. Launched with the iPhone 15 Pro instead of stainless steel, the material, as resistant as it is high-end, has been kept around the frame of the iPhone 16 Pro. But it could disappear from the iPhone 17 Pro, according to Jeff Pu. The GF Securities analyst, who has his connections in Apple's production chain, announces in a note that aluminum would make a strong comeback this year, not only for the iPhone 17 (like its predecessors since always), but also for Pro laptops.

Aluminum in force

Strangely, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air model would indeed be entitled to titanium, a surprising choice: this material is heavier than aluminum, and we are talking about a smartphone that we imagine to be as thin as it is light! This is not contradictory, however: Ming-Chi Kuo, another well-informed analyst, had mentioned last year a mix of titanium and aluminum for the iPhone frame 17 Air (with less titanium than in an iPhone 15 Pro).

It would also be a way for Apple to differentiate the iPhone 17 Air a little more from the rest of the family, this smartphone should not resemble anything known in the current range.

Jeff Pu also predicts support for 35W wired charging for all four iPhone 17s. This would not be a very big change compared to what we know today. The iPhone 16 and 16Pro range from 20W to peaks of 37/38W depending on the workload, according to independent measurements.
